Program attracts dozens of children in first days

We fed at least 45 children the first day of the program this summer, on Monday, June 9! And despite rain the next day, we served 37 in the lower level Gerdin Conference Room.

We are so thankful to all of the volunteers and sponsors who make this possible! Tuesday’s activity was presented by a dietician with HACAP (Hawkeye Area Community Action Program), who encouraged the children to eat their fruits and vegetables, then provided an activity to make watermelon slices with construction paper, glitter, and feathers! The children loved it!

In other news, Red’s Alehouse in North Liberty has agreed to provide lunches every Thursday all summer! This Thursday’s menu include’s cheeseburger sliders!

Join us for free lunch from 11:30 to noon, then activities until 1 p.m. every weekday this summer except for July 4!
